Dreaming about Shadow Figure

A specifically humanoid shadow, often standing, watching, or approaching. The form matters: the figure invites identification in a way a diffuse shadow does not.

Common interpretations

  • Jungian

A shadow figure in human form is typically read in the Jungian frame as a personified shadow: disowned material organized clearly enough that the psyche can meet it as an other. When fear is present, the figure often represents traits the dreamer has most strongly rejected in themselves, sometimes the same traits they criticize most sharply in others.

A tall, dark figure stands at the foot of your bed. It does not speak. The Jungian reading often asks what quality, if any, you would least want to recognize as your own.
